Local public authority and policies as driver for green transition in the construction and industrial sector and future skills and knowledge

Hosted by Guldborgsund Municipality, this fourth and last Transnational Learning Journey of INERTWASTE gathered partners and their stakeholders in Denmark for a last exchange under the topic of "Local public authority and policies as driver for green transition in construction and industrial sector and future skills and knowledge". The two-day event spotlighted innovative strategies to valorise construction and demolition waste (CDW), aligning with broader EU environmental and climate goals.
Day 1 featured a series of presentations highlighting a wide range of tools and policy approaches aimed at maximising the reuse and recycling of construction materials. Participants explored good practices such as digital platforms for trading reclaimed building materials, regional policies promoting circular procurement in public construction projects, and advanced mapping technologies for assessing resource potential in buildings.
On the second day, the focus shifted to on-site learning. Delegates visited the Storstrømsbroen bridge project, a major infrastructure development in the Guldborgsund region. Project leaders shared insights into how components from the old bridge could potentially be repurposed in the new structure. They also discussed the innovative use of slag from local waste incinerators in building the bridge ramps, along with the technical challenges involved in integrating such secondary materials.
This fourth Transnational Learning Journey reinforced INERTWASTE's commitment to cross-border collaboration and knowledge sharing to reduce the environmental impact of the construction sector. As regions face growing pressure to meet sustainability targets, the event underscored the critical role of innovation and cooperation in scaling circular economy solutions.
