On 13 March 2019, ACR+ member Nantes announced that a progressive ban on plastics in school cafeterias will take effect starting in May 2019. The move is in response to constant protests from thousands of parents of students about the large amount of plastic generated.
A first test will be conducted in ten schools in May. Plastic tableware will be replaced with reusable alternatives and water will be served in stainless pitchers. The initiative will then be expanded to incorporate all school cafeterias in the city by February 2020.
