“Separate to compost, compost to plant” is the motto of the domestic composting project that ACR+ member Cascais Ambiente is developing in partnership with Tratolixo, an inter-municipal company owned by the Association of Municipalities of Cascais, Mafra, Oeiras, and Sintra for Solid Waste Treatment, with a view to reducing the amount of biodegradable waste in undifferentiated waste.
In this context, Cascais Ambiente will distribute 300 domestic composters for free to residents with houses or apartments with a patio, a backyard, or a garden.
This project, co-funded by POSEUR, the Portuguese Operational Programme for Sustainability and Efficient Use of Resources, promotes the reduction of waste by separating biodegradable waste, including food waste and lawn mowing, and by deposing it in the domestic composter. Residents who join the project will also have excellent quality compost for their garden or potted plants.
