On 27 April 2020, ACR+ member Reloop Platform organised a webinar to present best practices from around the world in the implementation of national circular economy models for beverage containers. The webinar put forward Sweden’s deposit system which is the oldest European scheme for one-way beverage packaging and has not only contributed to high collection rates and high-quality recycling but has also effectively closed the loop for plastic bottles in the local Swedish market. The implemented proximity principle was acknowledged by Rana Pant from the European Commission, DG Environment who underlined many environmental benefits of the Swedish solution. The webinar also included a producer’s perspective on post use phase of the packaging life cycle.
