The Catalonia Circular Observatory, a hub of reference for the circular economy in Catalonia born in 2018, published a monitoring report on the macroeconomic indicators of the circular economy in Catalonia. The evolution of circular economy is evaluated based on 24 indicators grouped in the following main areas: inputs and outputs of materials; circular flows of materials; economic variables (differentiating between public and private sector); energy and water.

One of the main conclusions of the report is that in recent years there has not been, in general terms, a significant increase in circularity. It therefore concludes that it will take more time to see the impact of the policies and actions reflected in the indicators. Regarding energy and water, these are areas where substantial changes have clearly taken place with a constant increase in renewable energies and the reuse of water and sludge management.
