Zero Waste Scotland

Zero Waste Scotland published a report regarding the consultation on return schemes in late 2015, which has recently been discussed by the Scottish Government in light of an impending decision on implementing such a scheme in Scotland.

The report itself discussed what a Scottish system could look like and took reference from other systems already established in countries such as Denmark, Sweden and Australia. Scottish Environment Minister Richard Lochead has commented on how the evidence gathered by Zero Waste Scotland has highlighted both benefits and concerns with introducing such a scheme and how such evidence will help make an informed decision. In the meantime Minister Lochead has also asked Zero Waste Scotland to undertake further investigation into the issues raised by businesses, NGOs and local governments with regards to the costs of such a scheme.
