The LIFE BIOBEST project tackled key challenges in the collection, treatment, and use of bio-waste across Europe. Over 2.5 years, it delivered practical policy recommendations, validated best practices, decision-making tools for local and regional authorities, frameworks to support high-quality compost and digestate production, and a set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor and improve system performance.
To support implementation, the project developed a comprehensive, evidence-based toolkit for municipalities, waste operators, and policymakers. These resources help translate EU legislation into effective, context-specific bio-waste management systems.

Comprehensive EU Guidance
