On 15 September 2016, ACR+ was invited to participate as a speaker to the 7th meeting of the Joint Consultative Committee Montenegro of the Committee of the Regions held in Bar. The meeting was attended by JCC members representing sub-national authorities from EU Member States and Montenegro, as well as representatives of the national ministries for environment, climate, and energy of Montenegro and the Head of the political section of the EU delegation to Montenegro. One of the two main topics of the meeting was Solid Waste Management at Local Level.

ACR+ was invited to present its work and to share  best practice examples from its network. As a concrete example of how to increase recycling on a territory, ACR+ presented the case of Contarina. This ACR+ member active in the North of Italy is not only a great example with regard to the impressive increase of the recycling rate, but also pushing for moving up the waste hierarchy and for a continuous improvement thanks to ambitious targets.

Furthermore, ACR+ presented the European Week for Waste Reduction project, an awareness-raising campaign running successfully since several years which could be an interesting concrete action for the Montenegrin municipalities present. Finally, the ACR+ own initiative Circular European Network was presented and all present municipalities were invited to join ACR+ as “invited members”.

The meeting provided a great opportunity for ACR+ to establish first contacts to local authorities and the national association of municipalities of Montenegro.
