CITEO | Reuse is being rolled out in 4 French regions

24 February 2025 Members' News

Starting in 2025, 16 million people in four French regions can buy everyday products in reusable packaging at major grocery stores. This initiative, part of CITEO’s ReUse program, brings together brands, distributors, and other stakeholders to create a nationwide, shared system for reusable food packaging.

The experimental phase is launch in Pays-de-la-Loire (ACR+ member), Bretagne, Normandie, and Hauts-de-France, regions chosen for their strong engagement in reuse efforts. Citeo has developed standardized reusable packaging, with an initial batch of 30 million units, and is working with retailers to set up return stations in stores. To streamline logistics and reduce costs, Citeo and its partners have designed a loop system for collecting, transporting, and washing the packaging. Consumers in the four regions, already strong recyclers, will be key players in making reuse a widespread practice.
