05 June 2013

The “Re-Agir Project” was an environmental education project implemented by LIPOR - Intermunicipal Waste Management of Greater Porto, addressed to primary schools, which aimed to develop initiatives to promote community participation in educational actions environmental awareness and involve families in this context. Throughout this project were implemented strategies that contributed to the recognition of the importance of recovery of waste and the development of an ecological conscience. In the end of the project have been acquired skills for effective change in attitude, active mobilization and construction of knowledge.

Major Project Phases
Phase 1 – Diagnosis
This phase aimed to make a diagnosis, based on the identification of needs existing in the school community, to recognize the expectations and set priorities.

Phase 2 – Implementation
The implementation phase was focused on the development of a set of actions which addresses the gaps identified during the diagnostic phase. The action plan included proposals for innovative solutions to minimize the problems identified, and some initiatives were planned by LIPOR and other proposals by the educational establishment. It was intended that these actions were realistic, creative and promoted synergies between school and community.

Phase 3 – Evaluation
Targeting at first 39 schools, the project saw the involvement of 41 schools and the implementation of 666 environmental education actions. The assessment was a tool across the entire development process of the project. Through the assessment LIPOR’s technicians could check which strategies had the greatest impact, allowing to measure the results and improve the performance of educational agents.
