Education project on paper waste in secondary schools

The “Resíduos OK Project” was an environmental education project implemented by LIPOR - Intermunicipal Waste Management of Greater Porto, addressed to Secondary Schools, developed into the Annual Plan of Communication for Environmental Education 2011-2013, aimed to promote the implementation of actions catalyst of good environmental practices, especially in terms of waste management, addressing issues such as multimaterial separation/recovery and prevention in the production of waste.

The proposal was the adoption of a working method, developed in a phased manner and oriented to optimization practices that lead to separation and prevention of waste. The “Resíduos OK” was based on a temporal dynamic plan from the point of view of project execution.

Project Development
The "Resíduos OK Project” was consisted of 4 phases (0,1,2,3) - Diagnosis, Introduction to the Issue, Project Development and Evaluation. The plan was aimed at the optimization of Waste Management of Parks School and focused its intervention with spaces like office, reprographics, canteen, staff room, student lounge and recreation. The approach with the students understand the specific and appropriate to the realities studied, subdivided into "Basic Plan" and "Advanced Plan", according to the needs identified in the diagnosis. The first were applied in the institutions in which the level of awareness is low and where the needs of waste management are primary or basic. The second were applied to institutions that already bear management needs more specific and that the basic process is already complete. All institutions must, within the period specified, ensure compliance of the activities identified in the Action Plan. The action plans had proposed autonomous development actions by students and it was indispensable presence and support LIPOR’s technicians.
