On 7 February 2024, a pioneering consortium featuring multi-distributor and multi-brand stakeholders, spearheaded by the reuse operator Petrel, was launched to reintroduce and accelerate the adoption of deposit for reuse systems for beverage packaging in Île-de-France, with plans for a national rollout. Supported by strategic partners CITEO and the Institut du Commerce, this initiative seeks to address societal and environmental challenges, aligning with the AGEC law's mandates for increased packaging reuse. It represents a collective effort towards circular packaging solutions, offering a simplified and consumer-friendly deposit system in 14 stores across Île-de-France, demonstrating a significant step towards sustainable consumption and circular economy practices in France.
