R.U.S.Z - Repair and service center Vienna
Since 1998, Vienna supports financially the repair center R.U.S.Z. - Reparatur und Service Zentrum. At the R.U.S.Z. WEEE products diverted from shredder treatment are collected and repaired. Electronic waste that can be repaired is reused and sold as second hand equipment. Unemployed persons are involved and work at the center after attending a technical course on how to repair WEEE products. R.U.S.Z activities focus on the extension of the utilization phase of common household appliances, consumer electronics and IT. R.U.S.Z provides also energy consulting for poor households.
Since the beginning of the project more than 400 unemployed persons have been trained by the project and 300 former unemployed have been transferred into regular jobs. R.U.S.Z is part of the Repair Network of Vienna, a network of more than 60 private companies that work on repair. From 1998 to 2008 the project was funded by the Viennese labour administration (AMS). In 2008 R.U.S.Z was transformed into a non profit private enterprise.
