Region Sud | Climate Plan: EUR 5.6 billion for the ecological transition

22 September 2025 Members' News

The Region Sud is accelerating its ecological transition with an ambitious Climate Plan 2025-2028, investing nearly EUR 6 billion over four years. Among its 123 concrete actions, the plan emphasises moving towards a circular economy, aiming for autonomous waste management and reducing non-hazardous, non-inert waste by 10% in 2025 compared to 2015. Household and similar waste per capita is also targeted to drop by 15% by 2030 compared to 2010, reflecting a strong commitment to sustainable consumption and resource efficiency.

Beyond waste, the plan includes decarbonising industry, improving water reuse with a 10% target for treated wastewater, and protecting ecosystems. These efforts are part of broader goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030, achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, and enhance biodiversity protection, ensuring the region adapts to climate change while minimising pollution and conserving vital natural resources.
