Reloop | Strong and growing public support for Deposit Return Systems

Reloop’s latest analysis updates the 2024 factsheet on public support for deposit return systems (DRS), presenting new findings and tracking global policy rollouts. As of September 2025, 59 jurisdictions have implemented DRS for single-use beverage containers, covering nearly 360 million people. By 2027, more than 70 jurisdictions are expected to be operating such schemes, extending coverage to about 644 million people, a 79% increase in just two years.

This rapid growth is fueled by strong and consistent public backing. Since 2003, over 200 opinion polls have shown high levels of support for new, existing, and expanded systems, reinforcing governments’ confidence in adopting DRS as an effective way to boost collection and recycling rates.
