ACR+ develops SEACURE’s Decision Support Tool to tackle nutrient pollution in the Mediterranean

ACR+ has begun developing SEACURE’s Multi-criteria Decision Support Tool (DST), a core element of this Horizon Europe Innovation Action addressing nutrient pollution across the Mediterranean.

SEACURE brings together partners from six regions in Spain, Italy, and Greece to demonstrate and replicate integrated solutions that prevent and reduce nutrient pollution. The project promotes an integrated landscape–river–sea approach, combining sustainable agricultural practices, improved wastewater treatment, and nature-based restoration solutions to tackle pollution at its source and across ecosystems.

The DST will help decision-makers such as river basin authorities and wastewater operators compare actions to reduce nutrient loads, considering environmental impact, financial feasibility, and pollution severity. It will offer practical insights on the time, cost, and effort required for each intervention. As the project advances, the DST will be refined with real data, allowing comparisons between expected and observed outcomes and supporting replication of SEACURE’s solutions across Europe.

The first version of the tool is expected in early 2027, with the final release by late 2028. For more information or to contribute to its development, contact Beray Cayli at bc@acrplus.org.
