SEACURE launches the DEMOSERIES: exploring nature-based solutions across the Mediterranean

SEACURE has launched the DEMOSERIES, a journey through its six demo sites in Spain, Italy, and Greece, showcasing local challenges and innovative solutions shaping healthier landscape–river–sea systems across the Mediterranean. The following episodes are currently released:

  • Mar Menor Lagoon (Spain) — Europe’s largest coastal lagoon, where intensive farming, urban wastewater, and climate pressures have led to severe eutrophication. CETENMA and INGEOBRAS present how Demo 1 is working to restore the lagoon’s ecological balance. Watch the video

  • Po River Delta (Italy) — a nutrient hotspot at the end of the Po catchment. Università degli Studi di Ferrara, Università degli Studi di Parma, and Consorzio di Bonifica Pianura di Ferrara are testing nature-based solutions to tackle nutrient pollution and prevent eutrophication along the Adriatic coast. Watch the video

  • Axios River Delta (Greece) — a key rice-growing region and biodiversity hotspot near Thessaloniki, facing nutrient pollution and algal blooms. Led by the Soil & Water Resources Institute (ELGO-DIMITRA), Demo 3 pilots sustainable solutions such as agroecological practices, precision farming, water reuse, and nature-based interventions to restore ecosystem health. Watch the video

Stay tuned as SEACURE continues its Mediterranean journey to highlight the challenges and solutions from its demo sites!
