Discover 26 recommendations to strengthen the EU’s circular transition

Advancing the circular economy is vital for Europe, not only to reduce waste and resource use but also to enhance competitiveness, revitalise industry, and reduce import dependence. ACR+ therefore welcomed the European Commission’s plan to introduce a Circular Economy Act by 2026, and has now submitted its recommendations to the European Commission, and shared them with Members of the European Parliament.

We thank our members (and our Board of Directors) for their contributions to the position paper, which ACR+ will continue to use to represent the voices of local and regional public authorities throughout the legislative process in Brussels. Already, our input has been welcomed by policymakers who recognise the valuable role of public authorities in the circular economy.

ACR+ presents 26 recommendations to make circularity a cornerstone of EU competitiveness, climate action, and social progress. Key proposals include establishing a Circular Single Market with binding targets, leveraging public procurement, strengthening producer responsibility, improving WEEE management, promoting sustainable (de)construction, fostering a circular bioeconomy, and ensuring fair, high-quality jobs for all regions.
