ACR+ shares insights on textile and kitchen waste in Bucharest

ACR+ attended the second edition of the International Environmental Forum held in Bucharest from 9 to 11 April 2025, at the invitation of its member FADI, the Romanian federation of intercommunal local authorities in charge of waste management. The event was part of the Romanian Green Energy Expo and included various conferences and roundtable addressing Circular Economy, and economic instruments and financing.

ACR+ took part to a roundtable focusing on textile waste and the new sorting obligation introduced earlier this year. The roundtable brought together several stakeholders of the Romanian value-chain, highlighting the opportunities of transition to a more circular model. ACR+ presented several European good practices and recommendation stemming from its 2023 publication and the CISUTAC project. It also portrayed a nuanced situation regarding the used textile sector, with the decrease of revenues from re-use and the absence of circular recycling routes. The Romanian textile re-use and recycling sector also shared this view, insisting on the need to support the strong re-use sector present in Romania.

In another presentation, ACR+ also shared good practices and recommendations on kitchen waste management from the LIFE BIOBEST projects, insisting on the need to provide a proper legal and economic framework for local authorities to set ambitious separation systems.
