The Catalan Waste Agency (ARC) has allocated nearly EUR 3 million to 72 municipalities in Catalonia to use recycled aggregates in construction projects, mainly for improving rural roads. This initiative supports the circular economy by reusing construction and demolition waste, aligning with local governments' obligation to use at least 5% recycled aggregates in public and private works. The funding will primarily enhance rural roads that connect agricultural lands, greenways, and fire prevention routes. Recycled aggregates are also used in concrete precast elements, urban furniture, mass concrete, mortar, and various types of pavements. Currently, 68.3% of construction waste in Catalonia is recovered, with a target of reaching 75%.
