BIOTRANSFORM delivers its takeaways and recommendations for boosting circular bio-based solutions

The BIOTRANSFORM project marked a significant milestone with its final event at BIOKET 2025, bringing together policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders to discuss the future of circular bioeconomy in Europe. Held in Brussels on 13 March 2025, the event highlighted the project’s key achievements, including innovative methodologies for biomass residue utilisation, demonstrative case studies from across Europe, and joint policy recommendations developed in collaboration with the ROBIN, SUSTRACK and BIOMODEL4REGIONS projects. Participants engaged in discussions on the regional challenges of transitioning to sustainable bio-based systems, focusing on practical solutions for policymakers and businesses.
Over its 30-month duration, BIOTRANSFORM has played a crucial role in helping European regions to design and implement suitable pathways to shift away from fossil-based value chains towards circular bio-based solutions. The project, coordinated by the Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT), has facilitated cross-sector collaboration to accelerate the bioeconomy transition in six pilot regions across Europe. With two final reports set to be released at the end of April 2025, BIOTRANSFORM delivered tools and methodologies which can be easily picked up and deployed in other EU regions to enable the transition to circular bioeconomy. In addition, the takeaways and learnings from the project will help feed the revision of the EU Bioeconomy strategy planned for the end of 2025.
