Ecomoebel Network
The Ecomoebel Gmbh is a German cooperation-network for the reconditioning and marketing of used furniture. Ecomoebel brings together waste managers and waste collectors, designers, furniture producers and sellers. Products sold are part of the “ZweitSinn” brand, that uses old furniture as a resource for the production of design furniture. The project started in 2002 and developed mainly in North Rhine-Westphalia with some additional partners scattered all over Germany. The current production capacity of the co-operative business in Germany is about 250 re-use furniture elements per month (30 large furniture and 220 elements of the “Frank -brand” shelf), resulting in an annual turnover of approximately 250.000 EUR (total for all ZweitSinn-/ecomoebel partners). The Ecomoebel GmbH did not receive any community funding so far. Preparatory research, however, was funded by national institutions. This project was supported by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research of Germany (funding approx. 1.5 million EUR) as well as by the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (German Environment Foundation; funding approx. 350.000 EUR).
