EMULSA | New system enhances recycling efforts at Gijón’s major event
EMULSA and Gijón’s Municipal Sports Board reinforced waste separation during the 82nd Gijón International Horse Show, which welcomed 45 000 visitors. The initiative focused on hospitality, with 15 food and beverage establishments using an improved separate collection system, particularly for glass, through new containers. Each venue received a dedicated glass bin to facilitate on-site separation and efficient collection.
Additional measures included four full recycling stations (general waste, organic, packaging, paper/cardboard, and glass), compactors for horse-related waste, and optimised collection schedules, reducing the event’s carbon footprint. These actions, part of Gijón’s new Municipal Waste Plan, not only improved recycling during the event but also laid the groundwork for future implementation in key hospitality areas across the city.
