Government of Navarra | New campaign to raise awareness of household food waste

06 October 2025 Members' News

Households in Navarra waste an estimated 84 kilograms of food per person each year, meaning that one in every five food items ends up in the bin. According to data from the Government of Navarra and Eurostat, this amounts to around 57 000 tonnes annually. Compared with 2020, food waste in the region has fallen by 12% per capita and 9% in total volume, placing Navarra on course to meet the EU target of a 30% reduction by 2030. In this context, the Department of Rural Development and Environment, through the Office for Waste Prevention and the Circular Economy, has launched a public awareness campaign to encourage more responsible consumption habits, with a particular focus on household food waste.

The campaign, under the slogan “Organise your fridge, reduce waste”, features a series of public activities such as a live cooking demonstration, a free tasting session, and the presentation of a digital recipe book on food reuse. The initiative forms part of Navarra’s Food Waste Reduction Agenda 2022–2027.
