Household hazardous waste – Let’s keep them out with Hazards Out!

Since January 2025, the separate collection of household hazardous waste (HHW) is mandatory. To raise awareness on that obligation and support local authorities in the establishment of effective HHW management strategies, ACR+ joined FEAD, the European Waste Management Association FEAD, and Hazardous Waste Europe to launch the initiative Hazards Out. It will deliver a series of workshops to exchange best practices and foster collaboration between local authorities, industry, and other stakeholders.

After a first workshop dedicated to the changes brought by the new obligation, a second workshop took place on 15 May. It focused on the different collection systems and methods local authorities have put into place to ensure the safe and sustainable collection and treatment of the hazardous waste generated by the households. You can view the recording and download presentations here. A third workshop is scheduled on 24 September on the role of EPR scheme in the separate HHW collection. Save the date!
