Impacting waste streams from hazardous waste to mattresses

ACR+ is actively collaborating with the European Federation of Waste Management and Environmental Services (FEAD) on two significant initiatives: the "Hazards Out" campaign and the "Sleep Circular" project. The "Hazards Out" campaign, launched in partnership with Hazardous Waste Europe and NOWMORE, addresses the mandatory separate collection of household hazardous waste across EU Member States, which became effective in January 2025. ACR+ brought a crucial municipal perspective to the series of workshops, highlighting the challenges and potential solutions for local authorities in implementing these new obligations. The initiative aims to raise awareness, share best practices, and support the development of effective HHW management strategies through collaboration among various stakeholders. The second workshop is scheduled for 15 May, save the date!

Furthermore, ACR+ is also involved in FEAD's "Sleep Circular" project, which focuses on establishing a circular economy for mattresses. This initiative aims to divert end-of-life mattresses from landfills and incineration by improving collection and recycling rates across Europe. A key element of this project was a workshop held in March, bringing together the entire mattress value chain to discuss perspectives and develop a common action plan. By focusing on eco-design, the uptake of recycled content, and the development of EPR schemes, "Sleep Circular" exemplifies the kind of cross-value chain collaboration that FEAD champions in its broader vision for a circular economy, as highlighted by their recent unveiling of Circular Value Chain Partnerships across various key sectors.
