In the upcoming year, a pilot project for the selective collection of food waste will be launched in Alvalade, a civil parish in ACR+ member Lisbon. This new model was unveiled during the 9th edition of the Portugal Smart Cities Summit conference. The project, set to benefit approximately 10 000 individuals, involves a localised system for collecting food waste. This will be achieved by establishing access-controlled shelters and distributing bags that will act as keys to open them.

Furthermore, the system will feature a smart platform through which services will monitor the collection and quality (contamination) of waste, tracking its origin and encouraging correct behaviours. Good waste separation practices will be rewarded according to predefined standards.
