Shaping the future of sustainable sport through SHARE 2.0 platform

The ACCESS project contributed to the European Commission’s SHARE 2.0 platform, a new initiative aimed at embedding Green Deal principles into the sport sector. Building on the legacy of the original SHARE initiative, it seeks to increase environmental commitments across all levels of sport, from grassroots organisations to international federations and cities. ACCESS took part in one of the platform’s Communities of Practice, offering insights on cross-sectoral collaboration, sustainability, and access to EU funding in sport-related initiatives.
The project’s input underscored the importance of closer cooperation between sport organisations, venue operators, and public authorities to foster sustainability in the sector. Key recommendations included boosting knowledge transfer, replicating proven good practices, and supporting science-based innovations, from behavioural change to materials development. The project also emphasised the importance of robust monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to ensure that sustainability efforts are both effective and measurable. SHARE 2.0 is now preparing for a broader outreach campaign set to launch in June, marking a new phase of engagement for stakeholders aiming to align sport with the EU’s green objectives.
