AMB Big

On the morning of 22 November 2015, the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB), ACR+ member, celebrated the R-FESTA which was a great success and had lots of citizen participation. The objective of this insightful event was to promote reduction, repair and re-use to support the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR), which is celebrated from the 21-29 November 2015.

The R-Festa welcomed; a selection of repair experts with a diverse range of specialisations, thrift shops and a second hand market. Additionally, companies, projects and bodies involved with waste prevention (for example, the promotion of bulk purchasing), also participated in the event.

In relation to dematerialisation, the main theme of the EWWR, there were time-banks and exchange networks from the metropolitan area. Both provided diverse experiences that advocated for both the obtention of services, and the implementation of activities, without the need to purchase or use products.

In addition to AMB, the festivities also saw the presence of another ACR+ member, the Waste Agency of Cataluña, and the city council of Barcelona, both with stands dedicated to the dissemination of the values of waste prevention. The stands offered practical suggestions, such as immaterial gifts (a concert, a massage session, a photography course…) for next Christmas.

The R-Festa livened up with several kinds of workshops including; participatory repair workshops (for bicycles, clothes and electronic devices), no waste cooking workshops and workshops featuring toys and musical instruments made from rescued materials taken from tips (clean points), with which the group Vibra-tó gave a musical performance. There was also plenty of space for the imaginative toys made from reused materials designed by Guixot de 8.
