EWWR logo EN D BD 200pxThe European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) is the biggest Europe-wide initiative promoting the implementation of awareness-raising actions about sustainable resource and waste management during a single week. It encourages a wide range of audiences (public authorities, private companies, schools, civil society as well as citizens themselves) to get involved.

Since 1 July 2017, the EWWR is coordinated by the EWWR Steering Committee. The project was originally launched in 2009 under the European Commission’s LIFE+ programme, which co-financed the project until mid-2017.

The European Week for Waste Reduction was back for another intensive week of awareness-raising events from 20 to 28 November 2021. For its 13th edition, over 12,400 actions related to waste reduction, products reuse, materials recycling, as well as clean-ups were carried out across 30 countries in Europe and beyond. This year, the campaign decided to concentrate on circular communities, highlighting the key role played by local communities in the transition towards sustainable consumption and production patterns. The key word is collaboration among individuals or groups of people to imagine and build together communities based on the circular economy approach all around Europe and beyond! These uncertain times showed us the importance of human contact but, most of all, the power that people have in changing daily habits. The best actions will be awarded in June during the EWWR Awards Ceremony.

Don’t hesitate and take part in the EWWR!
