EMULSA | New Campaign to boost organic waste separation in Gijón’s hospitality sector

02 June 2025 Members' News

EMULSA has launched a new campaign focused on informing, raising awareness, and providing guidance on the separate collection of organic waste, targeting both the general public and the hospitality sector in Gijón. The campaign aims to increase the rate of organic waste separation, reduce contamination in the organic bin to avoid additional treatment costs, and reinforce the legal obligation of waste separation at source, in line with municipal regulations and EU recycling targets. It will run from late May to late June with a budget of EUR 73 320, funded by the EU through the NextGeneration Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

Key activities include 1 400 awareness visits to hospitality businesses in two phases, mobile information points in high-traffic areas, visits to major organic waste producers, sessions with neighborhood associations, and outreach at markets and near waste containers. The campaign also involves the distribution of printed materials, specially designed leaflets, media and social media outreach, and the distribution of individual bins and bags to participants.
