Zero Waste Scotland | Circular Construction Hub aims to increase reuse of building materials
Scotland, one of four European regions selected to pilot a Circular Construction Hub, is launching a groundbreaking initiative to promote the reuse of building materials and attract sustainable investment. Led by Zero Waste Scotland and backed by the EU’s CirCoFin programme, the project will model a second-hand marketplace for construction materials, with a fully developed hub expected by December 2027. Unveiled during EU Green Week, the initiative aims to position the reuse of materials as a mainstream practice, bringing economic and environmental benefits.
By extending the life of valuable construction materials, the hub is expected to reduce rising material costs, strengthen supply chains, and support Scotland’s journey toward a circular economy. It also offers opportunities for businesses to cut costs, boost profitability, and create domestic jobs in reuse, repair, and remanufacturing. The initiative represents a major step in building economic resilience and unlocking new market potential through sustainable construction practices.
