NLWA | Eco-friendly education and visitors’ centre opens in north London
EcoPark House, a new eco-friendly education and visitors’ centre by the North London Waste Authority (NLWA), has officially opened in Edmonton. The centre offers a vibrant space for schools, residents, and community groups to learn about waste, recycling, and sustainability. Powered entirely off-grid through solar panels and ground-source heat pumps, the building was designed with environmental impact in mind. Since January 2025, over 600 visitors have already engaged in activities, workshops, and site tours, receiving hands-on education about circular economy principles and waste prevention.
The building features a green roof, rainwater harvesting, and adjustable shading to enhance biodiversity and energy efficiency—saving an estimated GBP 117 000 and over 200 tonnes of CO₂ annually. As the final building completed in the southern section of Edmonton EcoPark, EcoPark House marks a key milestone in the broader redevelopment of the site, which includes a new energy recovery facility to replace the aging waste plant and serve over two million north London residents.
