Odense | Partnership to reuse and revitalise Odense University Hospital site

Odense Municipality has formed a new partnership with Freja Ejendomme, a state-owned real estate company, and Realdania By & Byg, an organisation working to improve quality of life through sustainable, high-quality transformation of the built environment. This partnership will transform the current Odense University Hospital site into one of Denmark’s largest urban redevelopment projects: a sustainable and vibrant city district combining housing, businesses, culture, and green spaces. The project emphasizes preserving and reusing historical buildings to minimize resource use and CO₂ emissions, turning the area into a model for transformation and adaptive reuse. Once approved by the authorities, a joint land development company will oversee the gradual redevelopment, aiming to create a diverse, inclusive neighborhood that respects Odense’s architectural heritage while supporting growth and quality of life.
