OVAM | Community service with impact: 13 000 kg of litter removed in Flanders

OVAM and the Justice House of Antwerp present the first results of their mobile workplace project, which allows convicted individuals to carry out community service by cleaning up litter. Launched in late 2022 and running through December 2025, the project has already had a meaningful impact. In 2024 alone, 2 239 hours of community service were completed, resulting in 2 098 waste bags filled with about 13 000 kg of litter collected over 1 722 kilometers. This initiative not only helps reintegrate offenders into society but also visibly improves public spaces in Flanders.
