Bruxelles-Propreté | New cleanliness triathlon launched in Ixelles to tackle illegal dumping

19 May 2025 Members' News

In Brussels, a new version of the "Cleanliness Triathlon" is being launched by Bruxelles-Propreté to tackle persistent issues of public cleanliness. A recent survey revealed that over half of Brussels residents frequently encounter dirty streets, with abandoned garbage bags and illegal dumping being major concerns. In response, a focused three-phase initiative will take place in the Ixelles neighborhood. From 17 to 24 May, awareness efforts will be carried out through door-to-door campaigns, stickers on improperly disposed bags, and temporary markings around illegal waste piles to educate residents and businesses.

From 26 May to 10 June, enforcement will follow, with fines for violations such as off-schedule trash disposal and poor waste sorting. The final phase, between 23 and 27 June, will share results with the public, thanking compliant citizens and deterring future offenders. This initiative, led by the regional agency and the Ixelles municipality in cooperation with local actors, aims to serve as a model for future clean-up efforts.
