Paris | The city’s eco-responsible events charter has been updated

07 July 2025 Members' News

Paris hosts around 5 000 events each year, and to promote sustainable practices among organisers, the city has updated its eco-responsible events charter. Following the environmentally ambitious 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the city aims to extend these high standards to all events. From now on, all organisers must follow mandatory sustainability commitments covering areas like waste, energy, plastic reduction, and sustainable food. The updated charter includes eight event categories (such as large public events, sports activities, film shoots, and local festivals) with sector-specific obligations that will be required to obtain public space permits.

This shift toward greener events is already underway in Paris, with concrete changes like the end of disposable containers at trade fairs and zero-plastic road races since September 2024. To support this transition, Paris provides a detailed guide to help organisers implement the charter effectively, offering best practices, tools, and practical solutions to meet the required commitments.
