Barcelona Municipality and ENT | New guide to reduce single-use plastics in the fishing sector
The Barcelona City Council, together with companies and organisations from the fishing sector, presented a new guide aimed at reducing single-use plastic packaging in the commercialisation of fish and seafood. Developed by ENT, the guide offers concrete proposals and showcases real-life best practices to support the shift toward more sustainable models. It forms part of the city’s broader Plastic Zero Commitment and Climate Plan, promoting actions such as the use of reusable containers at municipal markets and encouraging responsible consumption across the supply chain.
The guide includes a sector diagnosis, detailed action plans, and case studies from both public and private entities. It highlights the environmental urgency of reducing plastic waste, especially in marine ecosystems where 85% of pollution comes from plastics. The publication also introduces a wide range of solutions—like reusable boxes at fish markets, deposit-return systems in supermarkets, and public awareness campaigns—to help different actors in the supply chain reduce their plastic footprint.
