LIPOR | Launch of the Vidro+ project to enhance glass recycling
LIPOR has launched a new project, Vidro+, aimed at enhancing glass recycling in the Greater Porto region by developing an innovative model for selective collection. The project focuses on improving both the quantity and quality of glass collected for recycling through door-to-door systems and public recycling bins, promoting circular economy practices by transforming glass waste into raw materials for new products. Glass recycling is crucial for environmental sustainability, as it can be recycled indefinitely without losing quality. However, despite the long history of selective collection in Portugal, recycling rates remain below targets, with only 56% of glass waste being selectively collected in 2023, well below the 95% recovery rate set by the Portuguese Strategic Plan for Urban Waste (PERSU 2030).
