AMIU | New waste sorting initiative launched at Genoa's Porto Antico

14 April 2025 Members' News

A new waste sorting initiative has been launched at Genoa's Porto Antico (a historic waterfront district in Genoa) to promote environmental sustainability. The project, a collaboration between Porto Antico and AMIU, aims to improve waste management for the over 4.5 million visitors to the area each year. Following an in-depth analysis of waste flows, 35 waste sorting stations have been set up, each with three color-coded containers for plastic and metal, paper, and for general waste. Additional containers for glass are placed in certain areas. This large-scale initiative is the first of its kind in a public space that caters to both residents and tourists. The installation of the 120 planned containers will be completed by May.
