NLWA | New strategy to move towards a low waste future
North London Waste Authority (NLWA) have approved a new Joint Waste Strategy for 2025–2040, setting ambitious goals to reduce waste, increase recycling, and move towards a low-waste, sustainable future. Key targets include halving avoidable food and recyclable waste in residual streams, doubling reuse at recycling centres, achieving a 50% household recycling rate, and eliminating landfill disposal.
The strategy was developed over three years in collaboration with the seven north London boroughs and shaped by input from over 5 000 residents through surveys and public consultations. NLWA emphasised the Authority’s commitment to supporting local communities, expanding education efforts, and improving recycling infrastructure for harder-to-recycle items like mattresses and carpets.
